Elections writing

WALT: Write an effective argument for our chosen political party.

The National Party is the only good  party, there’s no need to change government this election.I believe that keeping the National Party in Government is the best option.Because They Have the best policies like increasing Pay for people working for families and pay equity and Doubling the number of drug detection dogs, are all good policies. One of the many policies are reforming pay equity laws

Reforming the pay equity law
National would make it easier for employees to file pay equity claims directly with their employers, rather than having to go to court. It would be good because so people get paid equity so both gender or racies get paid equality another good policy is to Double the number of drug detection dog teams and extend their work to domestic airports.

Doubling the number of drug detection dog teams and extend their work to domestic airports.
doubling the number of drug dogs teams and extend their work to domestic airports, ferries and mail centres. Police vetting for anyone working at ports, mail centres or airport baggage centres would become mandatory. It would be a good policy to have so less people bring drugs in and out of new zealand Another important policy is increasing payment for people working for families.

Increasing payment for people working for families
National would increase Working for Families tax credits for middle and low income families. So family have more money to pay for food and housing and single parents have more money to raise their children
While National has good policies ,green has some bad policies one is banning new dairy farms

Banning new dairy farms
The Green Party would put a moratorium on the establishment of new dairy farms. This policy would be accompanied by a range of other measures to reduce pollution caused by livestock, including removing government subsidies for industrial irrigation. This would be bad because people thinking about making a dairy farm but don't have the money right now then they wouldn't be able to dairies and supermarkets sell lots of dairy products so we would need more dairy farms. Those were my key points i think you will agree will them

Clearly you can see national is the best party
Since National has the best policies, voting for them would be a good idea Increasing the pay for people working for famins and doubling the number of drug detection dogs and pay equity are all good policies
So will you be voting for national becuase i know i will be.

My next steps are:
learning how to write more persuasively

Letter Writing

In Writing we have been learning to: Write a formal letter.

We have followed the writing process and have planned and drafted a formal letter.

This shows the process that we have followed.

Here is the letter that I have written ( Link the draft of your letter here)

Here is my reflection on the letter writing that we have done.

One thing that I found challenging about writing formal letters was having detailed information

My next step is: look for more opportunities to put my letter writing knowledge into practice in the future.

Evaluate Texts

In reading we have been learning to apply some criteria to evaluate texts eg accuracy of information and presence of bias with Mr Brown

We have been evaluating texts against the following four criteria:
  1. Readability
  2. Accuracy
  3. Relevance
  4. Quality of language/ information.

These documents show evidence of my learning during this unit:
1
2
3

  • Describing Author's Purpose
  • Criteria to evaluate texts
  • Evaluating a range of texts

My Next Step: Is to continue to apply this new knowledge and evaluate texts as I read them, checking for readability, accuracy, relevance and quality of language/ information

Apply simple linear proportions, including ordering fractions

i was learning about simple linear proportions

I can apply the strategy to problem solving questions

Please complete these two problems. You will need to explain how you got the answer.

Question 1
In our household, there are twice as many cats as humans, with sixty legs in total.

How many cats are there to be fed?12

Question 2
Three men run a business together.
The proportion of the profit they each get at the end of the month is based on the proportion of the funds they have invested in the business.
The April profit is shared out so that All gets one third, Bob gets one half and Chuck gets one sixth.
In May, Des joins the group, investing half as much as Bob invested.

What share of the profit can Des expect to get?a quarter because bob has half and half of a half is a quarter

This term I have been reading and studying the novel abandon ship

I found this novel ok because i did not like it

During the novel I had to complete a thinking map which shows that I can classify how the author has shown the theme of the book.
  • Link to Classify Map

National Standard this covers

  • Year 7/8  Standard
    • I can identify and evaluate the way writers’ use language and ideas to suit their purpose and I can use my growing wide range of academic and content-specific vocabulary to understand texts.

  • Overall I would give this novel a rating of  7/10 and I would not recommend it to others to read because it was not very good

In ARTS this term we have been learning to:
Mime
Here is a link to our online modelling book.

  • During this unit of learning we:
  • Described the characteristics of silent performances.
  • Identified different techniques used in silent performances.
  • Used these techniques in a variety of different practice situations.
  • Worked in a small group to put together our own silent performance.

The most challenging part of this unit of learning was making the movie because it was hard to plan and make.

The two things that I enjoyed the most were:
  1. making the movie
  2. working in a group

The story that my group told silently was the police mans taser was stolen by the homeless man

Overall I think my group worked really well together because we made a good movie

WALT: I can successfully research a current event.
Here is a link to our online modelling book for this unit of learning.

The National Standard that I have been aiming for during this unit of learning is
  • Year7/8: I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.

Each week we have read a short text about a current event/ topic. We then formed questions based on what we had read.  After this we researched the answers to our questions and finally we gave our opinions on what we had found out.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

My Next Step is to continue to  apply the reading and  research skills that I have learned in a variety of other areas.

SLC

In CAREERS EDUCATION we have been learning to write a skills based Curriculum Vitae.

A skills based C.V. focuses more on the skills that we have,  rather than our work history.

Here is a link to our online Modelling Book that shows the process we have followed.

Three things that I have learned about writing a Curriculum Vitae are:

  1. you need to spell well

  1. you need to have good info

  1. you need to have good grammer

Here is a link to my Skills based Curriculum Vitae. (Link your C.V. here)

Term 1 Novel Study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel castaway

I found this novel boring because the book was not very Interesting

During the novel I had to complete two major assessment tasks. The first is an Explain Map which shows the consequences of a major event in the book. The second was a Describe++ Map (Inference map) which shows I how I have connected prior knowledge and other experiences to what I have been reading to make an inference.

National Standard this covers

  • Year 7/8  Standard
    • using several pieces of information to make inferences
using their prior knowledge, along with information in the text, to interpret abstract ideas, complex plots, and sophisticated themes
    • I can use a range of strategies, such as inferring, to work out more complex word

Games with minimal or no equipment.

In PE we have been participating in a variety of games that require little or no equipment.
Below is the Matrix which shows our progression in this unit of learning.

Screen Shot 2017-03-12 at 12.32.06 PM.png

The table below shows my understanding of games with minimal or no equipment.
(Fill this table in, in as much detail as possible. )

Examples of Games that need minimal or no equipment.
What equipment would we usually need to play these games.
Why do we play games with minimal or no equipment?
invisible tag cones and bibs becuase if we want to play a game at school there could be not be any more equipment left

My Strengths.
Some things that I have done well during this unit of learning are following the rules because i followed the rules in evey game

My Next Steps.
Some things I could improve on when playing games with minimal or no equipment are getting involved completely Because i did not get involved completely

Leadership article

In writing I have been learning to:
  • use all basic punctuation independently
  • attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses)

I have been especially focussing on using parentheses and commas. I have highlighted these in green where I have used them as well as other punctuation that I changed because it was used incorrectly. Here is a piece of my writing that shows this.Leadership article
